Smooth Toadfish

Scientific Name: Tetractenos glaber

Description: Another well known fish that is only found in south-eastern Australia, the Smooth Toadfish is a small, pale yellowish to greenish pufferfish, having dark brown irregular spots and blotches overlain with four darker bands, a white belly and large eyes with an orange ring around them.

These fish are quite inquisitive and great to watch underwater in the Marine Sanctuary or estuary as they feed on molluscs, crustaceans and polychaete worms.

While very poisonous to humans and should never be eaten Toadfish play an important role in local food chains and can be eaten by some birds including Pelicans.
