Black Bream
Scientific Name: Acanthopagrus butcheri Wadarurrung Name: kiang purt
Description: Only found in southern Australia Black Bream have their entire life cycle completed within estuaries and coastal lakes. Bream usually migrate upstream during drier times and move downstream when rains, bringing freshwater into the estuaries.
In the Barwon estuary they feed on algae and a wide range of prey including polychaete worms, molluscs, small crustaceans, insect larvae, and other small fish.
