Black Swan

Scientific Name: Cygnus atratus
Wadawurrung Name: kunuwarra

Description: Black Swans are a large, mostly black waterbird with a long neck and red beak. The wings are very dark above including also across the back. In flight, white panels are seen in the underwing. The underwing has thick, dark edges and a patch of white in the middle.

Black Swans feed on submerged aquatic vegetation including seagrass. They nest in local wetlands including Lake Connewarre.
