Species Name: Hormosira banksii

Description: Neptune’s Necklace is an intertidal brown algae that must cope with exposure to the air at low tide. It is made up of bead-like segments which store water and allow it to survive between the tides.

It covers large areas of the intertidal sandstone reef at the Bluff where it is vulnerable to trampling by eager visitors so please watch your feet!
