The centre is located inside the historic
'Lobster Pot' building on the Barwon Estuary, it is home to a wide
variety of local geological, botanical, historical, marine and cultural
information. Indigenous heritage of the region is well covered.
The centre's role is to provide interpretation of marine life and
coastal environment to a wide spectrum audience including local community,
tourists, various groups from near and far with schoolchildren especially
catered for.
The uniqueness of the estuary and surrounding area is presented
at the centre, highlighting special features unique to the region.
The geographical area covered by the centre is loosely defined,
but generally could be said to encompass the estuary towns of Barwon
Heads and Ocean Grove together with the southern area of Lake Connewarre.
