Rock-on / Basalt Reef

 

10 basalt reef

Around two million years ago, nearby Mt. Duneed erupted and lava flowed down to the coast, entering the sea at Barwon Heads, Breamlea and near Torquay. When it cooled, the resulting rock was the basalt that now makes up one of the sections of reef in the Barwon Bluff Marine Sanctuary.
