Coastal Birds of the Barwon Heads Region / Common Greenshank

Common Greenshank

Tringa nebularia - Common Greenshank
A Northern Hemisphere migrant, it breeds in the Palaearctic regions from the Kamchatka Peninsula in Siberia west to Scandinavia and North Scotland. It arrives in Australia during spring and remains through summer before flying north in autumn. Some first-year, non-breeding birds over-winter in Australia. It feeds on invertebrates that it takes from the water surface or shallows, particularly in tidal mudflats and shores.
